The city of Los Angeles will pay $3 million to cyclist who suffered permanent brain injuries after he was struck by a car in the San Fernando Valley.
Rabbi Shelaim Furst was riding his bike along Victory Boulevard, a posted bike route, when he was struck from behind by a car who was trying to change lanes and get onto the freeway.
Furst hit the car’s windshield and was thrown 27 feet into the street. He suffered a brain injury and memory loss.
An attorney for Furst alleged the city of Los Angeles allowed Victory Boulevard to fall into “dilapidated” conditions and created a false sense of security by posting bike route signs. The City Council approved the settlement without discussion.
