Tiesj Benoot emerges from the mud to win the Strade Bianche, Valverde finished 4th

The Belgian Lotto Soudal gave an exhibition in the classical sterrato. When he attacked, neither Bardet nor Van Aert could with him. Valverde and the favorites were marked too.

The 23 year old Belgian, could not find a better way to start his professional career than winning the Strade Bianche heroically. The Lotto-Soudal, with good results in classics but without victories, was the strongest of the sterrato race marked by the rain that left impressive images of cyclists covered in mud. The favorites including Alejandro Valverde, who finished fourth, seemed to be affected and none could be in the good cut.
